Nielsen said 8.9 million individuals viewed the tenth and last scene of the most recent season, either live or on playback on Sunday.
The Emmy Award-winning show recounts the tale of respectable families competing for the Iron Throne, at the same time watching out for the White Walkers driving swarms of the undead toward an intrusion from the North.

In a meeting with Deadline Hollywood, the show's makers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss said the end is close.
"It's two more seasons we're discussing," Mr Benioff was cited as saying on Monday. "From entirely near the starting, we discussed doing this in 70-75 hours, and that is the thing that we'll wind up with. Call it 73 for the time being,"
The makers said their goal was to recount to one strong story and not outstay their welcome.
"We've known the end for a long while and we're rushing towards it," said Mr Benioff. "We're unquestionably heading into the end diversion now," he included.
